"AC-O-LYTE": helper, assistant, to help, assist.
Acolyte's founder, Salvatore "JR" Guerrieri, has always had an interest in electronics. As a child, he would take apart television sets, radios, and other household appliances just to see how they worked and inherently was able to put them back together. A glimmer of the Acolyte concept came one day when his then girlfriend, Kimberly Anne Piechota took an excessively long time searching the bottom of her purse for her set of keys. JR had an idea. He bought her a little pocket flashlight so that the next time she could find items in her purse easily and quickly. But what seemed like a good idea at the time had a small problem. The flashlight, which was supposed to help her search for items in her handbag, was now buried at the bottom of it. At that moment, JR had a revelation. Why not design a light to automatically go on when the handbag was opened? JR immediately started to work on his new concept and Acolyte was created.
In 1996, JR began developing a lighting system to illuminate the interiors of handbags and knapsacks. The first prototypes were impressive enough for some friends and family to suggest that he speak to a patent attorney about a patent. Mr. Piechota, Kimmie's dad suggested one. Impressed by JR's concept, the attorney conducted a patent search and discovered that the lighting systems on record were not as "intelligent" and versatile as JR's lighting systems. Features including automatic magnetic actuation and wireless design made JR's invention truly novel and unique. On February 19, 1997 a provisional patent application was filed and on February 19, 1998 a non-provisional patent was filed. Since then, four trademarks and numerous additions to the original patent application have been filed as well. Friends and family have helped with their funds to finance product samples, development and filing fees.
Since then JR has developed his initial idea into a complete line of highly advanced specialty lighting products along with patents, patent pendings, copyrights and trademarks globally. Already, these products have attracted advice and interest from various related industry professionals including: Don Keller, the leading authority of flashlight development and technology, and former director of marketing and product development at Maglite, Jonathan B. Schafrann, Esq., known for his extensive patent, trademark, and copyright experience in the high-tech industry, , Digital Design, Inc., developers and manufacturers of high-tech and bio-tech systems and devices, Chicago Miniature Corporation, developers and manufactures of lenses and light emitting diodes, Direct Power Plus, an international marketing, import, and export specialist, Varta Industries, manufacturers of batteries, Mock International, manufacturers of handbags, Wickstead Design Group and La Rue International. These individuals and organizations have donated their time and expertise to help JR attain his vision of developing innovative quality lighting systems through his instrument, Acolyte Systems, Inc.
JR started the Acolyte idea to help people. After over a year of searching for a name for the company, finally, while in the attorney's office, the word "Acolyte" came up and it was quickly realized that the right name had been found. ACOLYTE, pronounced "ac-o-lyte" means "helper, assistant, to help, to assist." On August 20, 1998, Acolyte TM the trademark was filed and, thereafter, Acolyte Systems, Inc., was formed.
Since then Acolyte Systems Incorporated has actively constructed a powerful and diverse Intellectual Property Estate consisting of patents, pending patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Since allowance of its first technology patent in the year 2000, Acolyte has instituted an aggressive marketing campaign of its protected intellectual property. This technology can be seen in Acolyte's own line of consumer and industrial products. Then Acolyte Systems Inc., now known as the Acolyte Group of Companies.
